AND THE AUDIENCE IS THE FOURTH
If Aamir Khan is at the centre of a film, you can be sure there’s a moral science class round the corner. From Lagaan to 3 Idiots via Rang De Basanti and Taare Zameen Par, there’s been a heavy-handed indictment of various social ills in his films, achieved through caricatures brought to their senses by an all-knowing messiah portrayed with unvarying earnestness by Khan. Those of you who imagine 3 Idiots to be a Raju Hirani film nursing fond memories of the Munnabhai series and expect healthy doses of entertainment peppered with just the right pinch of melodrama, keep in mind, this is first, and above all, an Aamir Khan showcase.
