DROOLFEST FOR RPAT FANS
I did not understand why young women were turning into mush puddles en masse when the name Robert Pattinson was but mentioned. And I missed the Twilight series completely. So Remember Me would be my first experience of the mush inducing Robert Pattinson.
The story is very seventies early eightees where kids of separated parents suffer this suppressed anger towards the busy parent who can provide money but no time. Thankfully it is Pierce Brosnan who is the father and not what we see in Hindi movies (an unknown in Krishh, Mithilesh Chaturvedi is Katrina's dad in Ajab Prem ki...) where we wonder how such a lovely creature could have such non-descript parents...
Robert Pattinson plays the sulky, angsty young man surprisingly well, but somewhere you want to question the whole unwashed look, always angry pre-pubscent thing. You want to shake him up and say, 'Grow up!' Mourning a brother's death is fine, but the never ending brooding is so self indulgent. Yes the unwashed look may have young girls screaming with desire, but it merely made me wonder why the sheets matched the pillows. but the smiles make up for it.
So you have a lad angry with his dad, and the girl has a cop dad angry with the world. Connecting the girl and the lad is this really annoying character that reminded fellow movie-goer of Vishal Malhotra, the boy who plays the friend in every movie. Minor crises solve the parental problem but is it too late? The end shakes you a trifle because it comes to you as a complete curveball. And it is too dramatic for something that has proceeded at such a slow pace.
Not saying this is an unwatchable film, but I would wait to watch it at home, accompanied by a tub of ice cream or dark chocolate. Why I would watch it, hmm... the next picture should be proof enough. Enjoy!
