Nice review!

I find it interesting that everyone is supposed to be looking at Mumbai, but is, in fact, looking, only, at themselves. Yasmin is looking at what her life could have been; that she moved to Mumbai makes no difference to her; she is seeking her soul. Shai could have got her reports in Delhi or even Calcutta; she is after South Asian business (or whatever she got the grant money for); and Mumbai is one of several such possible perspectives; she is the seeker of facts, which she hopes to glean through pictures of the ostensible "body" of Mumbai. Arun is not seeking anything in Mumbai: he is in Mumbai but looking at everything (including Y) outside of Mumbai. (Fairly certain Kiran Rao may have shipped him off to Perth or Sydney in the second act.) Munna, young and lustful, seeks Bollywood, the "sex" of Mumbai, and he is unaware of its transitory significance in the scheme of things.

So, who's looking at Mumbai?

Kiran Rao may have done well to get perspectives from the true denizens of Mumbai - those who live in it and make it what it is.
