Renu, watched 72 Miles a little later in the week and hence couldn't write about it. I loved the premise of the film but felt that the screenplay didn't do justice to it. Some of the dialogues were preachy rather than heartfelt and although the two lead performances were very good and the characters' despair came across well, overall it wasn't as good a film as I'd expected from Rajiv Patil because had absolutely loved his previous, Jogwa.

Still, to make a film about an impoverished bunch walking for miles and constructing the entire narrative through this unusual road trip is commendable. Somewhere it reminded me of the Mahabharat story of the Pandavas' last journey where one by one they all kept falling off...

The book might be better than the film I think (though I haven't read it); sometimes it's easier to express feelings on paper, particularly the kind of anguish and desperation the two lead characters experience. Felt the same about B.A. Pass, where the original short story conveyed much more than the film could manage.

I've been following film impressions religiously and this is one of the best reviews :) the last para defines everything. "Freedom to paint mass murderers as stylish heroes" . I still don't understand why we are obsessed with these goons.
They say film industry has nothing to do with the rapes of women in india. I say it has got much to do. Cinema is the source of knowledge and entertainment to many people in india especially people living in small towns.
